The Harry Chapin Food Bank thanks those who participated in the 24-hour, Give Where You Live Collier online fundraiser on Tuesday and today. The food bank raised $23,465 in both online and physical donations from the start of the fundraiser at noon Tuesday, Feb. 21 through 11:59 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. That total will increase once we receive a portion of the money from two matching funds. Your donations will help the children, working-poor families, seniors, veterans, disabled and homeless individuals and others we serve.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank has 30 partner agencies in Collier County. We also serve county residents through our new Collier County Center at 3940 Prospect Ave., #101, Naples and our mobile food pantry program, called Fulfill. The generosity and caring you’ve shown are greatly appreciated.
What is Give Where You Live Collier?
Give Where You Live Collier is a 24-hour, online fundraising challenge. The event, held by the Community Foundation of Collier County and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, benefited nonprofits that serve the Collier community. The food bank participated in this event, along with 37 other nonprofits.
The food bank provides food to those in need through a network of more than 150 agencies in Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, Glades and Lee Counties, with 30 of those agencies in Collier County. The food bank also recently opened a new Collier County Center at 3940 Prospect Ave. #101, in Naples, to provide expanded services to the area.
The Matching Fund
Give Where You Live Collier features a $400,000 matching fund from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation and a $100,000 match from the Community Foundation of Collier County. Every nonprofit that receives a donation from noon February 21 to 11:59 a.m. February 22 will receive a proportionate share of the matching fund, increasing the value of every dollar donated.
The first $2,500 raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the Community Foundation. Beyond that, for example, if the Harry Chapin Food Bank receives 5 percent of the total donations made through Give Where You Live Collier, the food bank will also receive 5 percent of the $400,000 matching fund from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation.
