The 8th Annual Empty Bowls: Naples set a new record by raising $60,000 for the Harry Chapin Food Bank, when about 2,000 participants gathered Jan. 25 at Cambier Park to sample soups and to bid on bowls made by area artists. Proceeds will help the food bank provide $360,000 worth of food to children, seniors, working-poor families and others who go hungry in our community.

Empty Bowls: Naples combined art, music and great food to bring awareness about the issue of hunger in Southwest Florida. For a $15 donation to the food bank, participants received a hand-crafted bowl, enjoyed the variety of soups provided by 46 local restaurants, a silent auction, pottery demonstrations and music. The bowls were created by local students, artists and community members.

Naples Empty Bowls 2014 committee members--Betsy Dawson, Courtney Madden, Tracy Pospeck, Maria Schiller, Katie Schweikhardt, Jayne Sventek, Mike Huffman and Jody Van Cooney--worked year-round to make the event a success.

Collier County Superintendent of Schools Kamela Patton, Naples Mayor John Sorey and Barron Collier High School Principal Tammy Caraker served soup.

The Barron Collier High School’s drum line performed. Alexa and Taressa Boyd performed the National Anthem, and The Chorus of the Everglades sang barbershop music.
