WINK-TV Anchor Lois Thome revved up the enthusiasm in the room today at the kickoff sponsor breakfast for the 2016 WINK News Feeds Families Hunger Walk, benefiting the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida .
The breakfast, hosted by the Northern Trust Bank, at 7960 Summerlin Road, Fort Myers, brought together sponsors and sponsor hopefuls to learn more about the Eighth Annual Hunger Walk, which will be held Jan.16 at Miromar Outlets in Estero. This signature fundraiser for the food bank raised $330,000 last year.
The WINK Hunger Walk is presented by Garden Street Iron & Metal, Inc. and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 16 and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
The breakfast featured Thome as emcee, hosting a fun and feisty Family-Feud-style “Hunger Games.” Teams were chosen and in many cases, stumped in trying to name the top five groups of people the food bank serves, the top five types of food they provide, and the top five sources for the food. It was a great way to get the message of “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope” across and have some fun at the same time.
Thome also urged residents to form walking teams, which brings in the bulk of donations.
Take the quiz yourself and see how you fare. The answers may surprise you.
1. What groups do we serve?
2. Top five types of foods we provide?
