Did you know in 2014, more than 3,000 volunteers donated over 52,650 volunteer hours for the food bank? According to the independent sector, the current national average value of a volunteer hour is $22.55. Making the value of Harry Chapin Food Banks volunteer’s donation worth more than 1.18 million dollars! We are so grateful.

Volunteers are needed for these upcoming special events. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tanya Phillips, volunteer manager, at tanyaphillips@harrychapinfoodbank.org or call (239) 334-7007 extension 141.

#1:  Help out at the Twins February Open House - Sunday, February 22, 2015

Help us accept incoming donations at the Twins Open House, at the CenturyLink Stadium (14100 Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33912).

The stadium has undergone major reservations and the open house will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, baseball/softball clinics and a chance to meet Twins players!  This should be a very popular event with lots of donations coming in to keep volunteers busy! Plus, parking is free.

Volunteer shifts are 8:30 am to noon and 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.

#2:  Help out at the Twins March Open House - Sunday, March 1, 2015

Help us accept incoming donations at the Twins Open House, at the CenturyLink Stadium(14100 Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33912).

If you weren’t available on February 22nd, here’s another opportunity!  Better yet, make it a double run and volunteer for both open houses.

Volunteer shifts are 8:30 am to 12 noon and 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.

#3:  Help out at the Lee County Fair - Monday, March 2, 2015

Harry Chapin Food Bank night at the Lee County Fair, at the Lee County Civic Center, (11831 Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers, FL 33917)

Help us accept incoming donations by customers that can bring in three cans of food in exchange for free admission into the fair. In addition to the rides, food and exhibits there will be contests for swine showmanship, goat agility and a children’s talent contest taking place this evening.  This is the only day where admission is free with a donation, so it should be a busy night for volunteers! Last year attendees donated a total of 7,969 pounds of food (which was up almost 1,000 pounds more than 2013).

Volunteer shifts are 4:30 to 7 pm and 6:30 to 9 pm.

#4:  We need YOU for the 2015 Letter Carrier's Food Drive - Saturday, May 9, 2015

Save the date for the National Letter Carrier’s Annual Food Drive. It is our largest food drive of the year! More information to come!

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tanya Phillips, volunteer manager, at tanyaphillips@harrychapinfoodbank.org or call 239-334-7007 extension 141.
