The frenzy of the holidays is just around the corner. How do you plan on giving back this season? Give the gift of a meal during the holidays to a SWFL family struggling with hunger on Dec. 1, 2015 for Giving Tuesday!
What is #GivingTuesday?
Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1, is a day of giving back!
After Thanksgiving we have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. The excitement continues with Giving Tuesday, which began in 2012 as a global day dedicated to giving back. Now charities like the Harry Chapin Food Bank (HCFB) encourage donors to think of those in need. Everyone can be a philanthropist!
Why give on Giving Tuesday?
We ask you to consider making a gift in support of the Food Bank because we are the largest hunger-relief organization in the region. HCFB supports more than 150 nonprofit partner agencies that allow us to distribute food to our neighbors in need. Together we can make a difference for the single mom with a low-paying job who can’t provide enough food for her children,, for the family who has to choose between paying the bills or paying for nutritious food, and the senior who will now be able to pay for medicine and not have to worry if he or she will eat healthy food.
What are the best ways to give?
This season we are relying on our friends to give back time and volunteer. We’re also seeking monetary contributions that allow us to distribute more food and expand our reach, as well food donations to help keep pantry shelves full.
How will my gift be matched when donating directly to HCFB?
This holiday season your gift will be doubled when donating directly to HCFB. We have two separate $100,000 donation match challenges:
Billy Fuccillo of Fuccillo KIA will match up to $100,000, dollar for dollar, from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Eve when you donate online, by calling in or by mail. Watch his announcement here. We thank Mr. Fuccillo for his continued partnership.
In addition, a group of local individual and corporate donors have also provided us with another $100,000 challenge; all gifts must be received by HCFB (online, calling in or by mail) before the end of 2015 to qualify. We extend our appreciation to the Al and Nancy Burnett Charitable Foundation, the Ethel and W. George Kennedy Family Foundation, the Hoffer Family Foundation and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation for their vision and community leadership.
How will Bank of America match my gift to HCFB through Give A Meal?
Another way to give is through Bank of America’s Give a Meal campaign. For every $1 donated at bit.ly/HCFB_BOA_GiveAMeal, Bank of America will give $2 more; be sure to select “The Harry Chapin Food Bank” to direct your gift locally.
You can also access this at bankofamerica.com/give, type in our 33901 ZIP code and then select “The Harry Chapin Food Bank.”

What impact does the Food Bank have in Southwest Florida?
Last fiscal year, between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 we distributed 15.3 million meals.
Monthly the Food Bank serves 30,000 of our neighbors in need who struggle with hunger. We work with our nonprofit partner agency network to help get food to those who need it most.
Thank you for joining with Harry in the fight against hunger!
