Thanks to WINK-TV, donations for turkeys have been steadily coming in at the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
Since WINK aired their story about the turkey shortage and the food bank’s need for 10,000 Thanksgiving turkeys for people in need, great things have happened:
Billy Fuccillo, owner of Fuccillo Kia in Cape Coral, stepped forward and donated $5,000 for turkeys.
The public brought in 200 turkeys Monday to the Harry Chapin Food Bank warehouse, and 175 on Tuesday. We don’t have a count for Wednesday as yet.
In addition, other monetary donations, including a $2,800 donation from a Naples physician and another $1,000 donation have come in.
This means Harry Chapin Food Bank will seek to purchase $10,000 worth of turkeys.
The total so far is 1,120 turkeys.
The $10,000 turkey purchase will buy about 670 turkeys at $15 each wholesale.
The public has brought in 450 turkeys so far to the Harry Chapin warehouses in Fort Myers and Naples (Friday through Tuesday).
In addition, the USDA has provided 7,000 whole chickens to give out for Thanksgiving.
The first WINK story was picked up by other media and kept the ball rolling. Harry Chapin Food Bank appreciates WINK-TV as a community partner in the fight against hunger.
Please keep those turkeys coming! The deadline is Friday, Nov. 20.
