Did you know the Saturday before Mother's Day is also the largest one-day food drive in the nation?
Are you ready to Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 9th? Letter carriers across Southwest Florida are gearing up for the 23rd annual National Letter Carriers' food drive, Stamp Out Hunger. This is the one day when letter carriers collect non-perishable food that has been left by mailboxes, in addition to their mail delivery duties. Last year residents donated over 237,000 pounds of food for the food bank!
Summer is coming, school will be out, and the need for food assistance will be great. "Six days a week, letter carriers see first-hand the needs in the communities... and we're committed to helping meet those needs" National Letter Carriers President, Fredic Rolando.
Working with the post offices in Lee County, the Harry Chapin Food Bank will be grateful to stock our shelves high. All food collected in food drives are distributed to our partner agency network at no cost.

Leave nonperishable food in or at your mailbox on May 9th. Mark it on your calendar so you don't forget!
If you are headed north before the 9th you can bring your food to any post office, or bring it to our warehouse. Items most needed include peanut butter, tuna, rice, beans, soups and other canned items (meats, fruits, vegetables).
Volunteers are needed to help unload the mail trucks and sort the foods into bins. There are volunteer opportunities at 6 Lee County post offices located in Cape Coral, Fort Myers and North Fort Myers. It’s a combination a great workout with breaks to socialize. Many volunteers come back year after year to help with this critical food drive.
Instead of watching Saturday cartoons, come out and make a difference in our community. Be sure to sign up to volunteer soon before slots fill up. You can help us have a big impact by telling your condo association, work place, church, MeetUp group and others around you about the food drive.
